Class Description:
The purpose of this 5th grade class is to teach concepts that students will be able to utilize in real life situations, prepare them for the skills necessary for next school year, as well as creating productive members of society.
Attendance:
Attendance is crucial. A parent/doctor’s note is required for an absence to be excused. Excessive absences will greatly affect your child’s performance and grades. All missed assignments must be made up within 2 days of the student being absent.
Discipline:
In order to have a classroom environment most conducive to learning the following classroom discipline plan will be in effect at all times.
“STRIKE POLICY”, a behavior plan that will help to create and keep a positive learning environment throughout this school year. The classroom behavior plan consists of rules as well as positive and negative consequences.
Causes for strikes are, but not limited to: • Poor Conduct • Lack of Effort • Not completing Classwork • Not completing Homework • Improper Uniform • Not Returning Forms on Time • Not completing i-Ready weekly requirements * Note: after every 5 Strikes conduct grade will be lowered.
Rules:
1) Follow directions the first time given.
2) Ask for permission before leaving your seat.
3) Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
Consequences:
1. Verbal Warning
2. One to one talk with teacher followed by a note home or phone call to parent
3. Other measures taken including being referred to an administrator resulting in indoor suspension or more if necessary.
Strike Policy: Causes for STRIKES on a Daily Basis (but not limited to)
1. No Home Learning
2. Improper Uniform
3. Poor Conduct (including lack of effort)
4. Forms not returned on time
Every 5 strikes earned will make the student ineligible from participating in dances, field trips and all other class/school activities. When school rules are broken, the order of consequences may change.
Grading Criteria:
This is an approximate breakdown of the grade percentage your child will earn on all assignments. The percentages are subject to change by assignment and/or grading period. More on grading is located in the Grading Criteria section of this website.
Math/Science/Social Studies- Test/Quizzes (40%), Class work including centers and projects (40%) and Home Learning/Interactive Notebooks (20%)
Grading Scale:
90-100 = A= 4 points
80-89 = B= 3 points
70-79 = C= 2 points
60-69 = D= 1 point
0-59 = F= 0 points
Home Learning: (MUST BE COMPLETED EVERYDAY!!!!)
Each student is responsible for writing down and completing their daily home learning assignments. Parents must sign Planner/Agenda daily to assure assignment has been completed.
